Something Blue
Designed by Lois Caron

The larger version of this design can be used as a wedding ring pillow and, later, as a boudoir pillow. The small version, finished as ornaments or sachets, would be appropriate as bridesmaids' gifts or as a remembrance for the bride and groom's first Christmas together.

On both projects a charm can be substituted for the rose motif in the center.

------

Note: the partially stitched ornament is an illustration of how the design looks using
Candlelight instead of the Ice Waterlilies and attaching a charm instead of stitching the rose in the center.

STITCHING THE DESIGN

Pillow

1. With two plies of Peacock Waterlilies, work all of the backstitches which form the blocks. At the same time, fill in the diamond shapes formed by the intersection of blocks with double straight cross (see Diagram 2).

SPECIAL NOTES
One square on the chart is the equivalent of one cross stitch.

Note that some of the slanted backstitches are oblique. Instead of working these backstitches like a half cross, they are worked over 2x1 stitches. See Diagram 1.

2. With two plies of Peacock Waterlilies, work all of the backstitches which make up the stem. At the same time, work the corner leaves in cross stitch.
3. Work the flowers on the stem with two plies of Ice Waterlilies.
4. Work the four flowers in the body of the design with two plies of Ice Waterlilies.
5. Stitch the leaves on the stem and on the four flowers with two plies of Peacock Waterlilies.
6. Work the remaining Double Straight Cross stitches with three plies of Ice Waterlilies. At the same time, place French Knots as indicated on the main chart.

SPECIAL NOTES

One square on the chart is the equivalent of one cross stitch over two threads.

The backstitches are worked with one ply of Waterlilies over one thread.

Note that some of the slanted backstitches are oblique. Instead of working these backstitches like a half cross or continental stitch, they are worked over 2x1 stitches. See Diagram 1.
