Teaching children to stitch can be rewarding and challenging
at the same time. The same goes for learning to stitch! The following
chart, materials list, stitch diagram and finished piece will
help you to complete this project which Lynda and Wendy of Forever
in my Heart Designs have custom designed just for kids.
Model is stitched on 10 count Tula fabric
The completed project as shown is stitched with 1 ply Watercolours

The History of
Forever in My Heart Designs
The history of Forever in my Heart Designs is one which proves
the adage that, in life, there are no coincidences. Lynda Melanson,
a single mother of four, lived in El Paso, TX and worked as a
high school teacher. One day Lynda happened upon a shop called
The Counted Thread and ventured inside. In a flash she was transported
back to the stitching she had done as a child and became a regular
shop visitor and then a part time employee. Switch scenes to
the same time period but now in Idaho Falls, ID, where Wendy
Peatross was occupied as a married stay-at-home mother of four,
who was very involved in church programs, doing cross stitch,
the smocking guild and the 4H club.
Fate began to work its magic when Steve Orme of Idaho Falls,
made Lynda's acquaintance on the Internet in the summer of '98.
To say they hit-it-off is an understatement! Before the year
was out they were married and Lynda and her family had moved
to Idaho. Steve operated his own business, Pioneer Art and Frame.
Frustrated that there was no comparable needlework store to the
one Lynda had left behind, she opened her own in March '99, next
to her husband's store and named it Forever Stitching. Lynda
met Wendy first at church and showed up at the shop with a stitched
piece she wanted framed. To say Wendy and Lynda hit-it-off, is
the next understatement. Soon after, they came to an arrangement
that Wendy would stitch shop models in exchange for framing work.
Their designing business came together in a similar as-if-preordained
manner, "It just sort of evolved," says Lynda. They
began putting their heads together on projects for the Forever
Christmas Club. Steve cut a heart shaped mat and asked if they
could design something to finish it off. No Sweat, they thought.
"Sure we can," they replied. True to their word, Wendy
came up with charts for three: Silent Night, Jesus is the Reason,
and All Hearts Come Home for Christmas. Then followed a needleroll
design, May Christmas be Forever in your Heart. That verse coupled
with the Lynda's shop name, Forever Stitching, formed the official
name of their design venture, now a fait accompli! Both Lynda
and Wendy realized they each had talents that combined would
result in a seemingly limitless series of fun charts and designs
and the Forever Christmas Club members certainly concurred. When
questioned about how casually, , naturally, quickly and seemingly
effortlessly this whole transformation in their lives came about,
Lynda simply remarks, "Doesn't everybody do it [start their
business] this way?" With their notebook still brimming
with ideas, Forever in my Heart may just be around, well... forever.
