Exclamation Point! has been in business since 1977, specializing in handpainted canvases and a wide variety of threads for needlepoint. Lyn Dougherty, the proprietress had a passion for needlework before opening her shop, but no local sources for her supplies. So, she created one. Her store inventory now represents over 250 artists and includes over 6000 threads including wools, cottons, silks, rayons, metallics and combinations.

The store is located in the charming town of Saratoga, nestled between the mountains, with easy access to parking, specialty shops and fine restaurants. Their "Thread Wall" (shown below) is their pride and joy. Each color has a separate section and every shade, weight and texture of the color is represented. They try to stock the full color range of every thread they carry. Among these are all Caron Watercolours, Waterlilies, Wildflowers, Impressions, Antica, Rachel, Rachelette, Double Dipped Rachel, Candlelight and Soie Cristale. The threads are displayed in rainbow fashion i.e., all of one color together so that pulling threads for a particular canvas is logical. It lets one determine color first, then texture and stitch suitability.

Lyn's staff of four represents 80 years of needlepoint experience. They offer weekly classes focusing on Independent Design and private lessons covering technique, stitches threads and designing canvases from beginner to advanced. Stocked accessories include working frames, scissors, threaders, all tools for needlepoint and wooden products including boxes, footstools, luggage racks, trays, etc. to display finished work. And artisans are employed who are experts in finishing belts, rugs, three dimensional objects, as well as pillows, ornaments and glass display cases. A partial list of designer canvases that they regularly stock includes Amanda Lawford Artworks, Alexa Designs, Peter Ashe, Beau Geste, Bees Knees, Caron Collection, Nan Hempel, Heritage Home Graphics, Napier Needlepoint, Kathryn Molineaux, Rosalie Peters, Painted Pony Designs, Renaissance Design, Studio 2, Tapestry Tent, and many more. At Exclamation Point! orders for custom designs are always welcomed.
